The Lord’s Return

Introduction by D.M. As you may already know, the Jehovah’s Witnesses believe the Lord returned in 1914 (of course, there are problems with the “1914" date, among other things).

What’s important to show the Jehovah’s Witness here, is Joseph Rutherford’s words. He said,

“Jesus declared that, when he comes invisibly ‘in the clouds of heaven with          power and great glory....’” (Rutherford, The Kingdom Is At Hand, WTBS, 1944).

What should we tell the Jehovah’s Witness?

1. Show the J.W. the original copy from Rutherford’s book. Then ask, “Who’s right, Joseph Rutherford who says Jesus will come back “invisibly,” or the Word of God who says every eye will see Jesus when He comes back?

2. Encourage the JW to read aloud, from their own New World Translation (NWT). Take them to the following verses:

In Matthew 24:30 they will read, “...they will see the Son of man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.”

In Luke 21:27 they will read, “and then they will see the Son of man coming in a cloud with power and great glory.”

In Revelation 1:7 they will read, “Look! He is coming with the clouds and every eye will see him....”
